Joe joined General Southwest in 1979, while obtaining his B.S. in Insurance from Arizona State University, and obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor designation in 1984. Joe is the past President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Greater Phoenix, the youngest Past President of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Arizona and has served on numerous national committees for the Independent Insurance Agents of America. He has also chaired and served on numerous Insurance Company Advisory Committees during his 41 years in the business. The association has honored him with several awards for his efforts, including the Career Achievement award in 2000.

Active in local charitable organizations, Joe was a member of the Phoenix Active 20/30 Club for many years. He was also a member of the Executive Council of the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix for over 15 years where he served as President in 2001. During his term as president, Joe was instrumental in starting the PGA Tour Nationwide Golf Tournament which ran for 5 years. In 2001 he was awarded the PGA Nationwide Tour Volunteer of the year. He was also named Man of the Year in 2000 and earned the Life Member Achievement Award in 2002.
